I don't pretend to be unbiased here - I'm a skinner so my first response is to think it sucks that there's no XP gain for skinning. On the plus side however, I'm thinking that if this continues, a lot of people levelling will opt for a different gathering profession to level a bit faster, which could push up the AH prices (clutching at straws much?). I noticed that the achievements in guilds recognize that skinning gets more 'hits' than other gathering professions, because the MOBs are generally more plentiful than nodes.

The required amount is about 2.5x the amount for mining/herbalizing. So based on that, might I suggest that skinning gets an XP bonus 2.5 times less than the other gathering professions? Some other points I figure will come up 1. You can sometimes skin things other people have killed. Maybe if it's not tagged by you, no XP for skinning (this would probably make most difference in groups/dungeons) 2.

Several people have mentioned that skinning has the XP bonus 'built in' because you (usually) have to kill the MOB to get the skin. But the XP amount is much lower than the amount for a gathering node, and it also takes more time. As a matter of fact, I got my skinning to 525 by standing around where the dragons spawn in Hyjal and skinning what other people didn't. I didn't kill a single creature to get those skins, just like herbalists and miners. The gathering professions aren't as different as they seem. People saying you get the XP when you kill the mob is a flawed argument, I would get that same XP even if i didnt have skinning, i have to stop to skin my mob that take a second.

Me and my wife have been leveling in Cata quest for quest, she does herbalism, we kill all the same mobs together, she is atleast half a level ahead of me in XP just from herbing she does. She just grabs herbs that are near by while questing and killing. If you dont want skinners getting huge amounts of XP from mobs killed by others then make it so you get no XP from mobs tagged by other and reduce the amount we do get per mob.

You could balance it, you are just being slack in this department.
